I never expected to be the first Digital Arts and Humanities minor to graduate from Carleton. Digital Humanities was never something I intended to engage with because I didn’t even know it existed. And yet, my exploration of different interests lead me to this one, and I am grateful. I learned (albeit slowly) how to use various digital tools for historical inquiries, learning how to tackle and present old questions and topics in a new way. I also have come to value an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems; you don’t need to have the entire solution, just a part of it. Digital Humanities projects often require a variety of skill sets and interests, and the ability to value and communicate across these various disciplines can be incredibly powerful and productive. Thanks to the opportunities to explore early on, and follow through with various interests, I ended up with a DH experience mostly focused on public facing history.
